1. Check Your Thermostat
When there is no heat coming from your furnace the first thing to check is your thermostat. Did someone turn off the heat? It may sound funny, but the first place to check is your thermostat.
If the thermostat is on, compare the temperature settings to the room temperature. Set the temperature a few degrees higher than the room and see if the furnace kicks on.
2. Check Your Circuit Breaker or The Fuse
The second thing to do is check your circuit breaker or the fuse for the furnace. This is one of the most common problems with furnaces. Make sure the front panel covering the blower is fastened. There is a safety switch that must be fully depressed for the furnace to operate.
3. Check Your Filter
The third component to check is your filter. Clogged filters can cause a lot of furnace problems. The heat exchanger can overheat and cause your furnace to shut down.
4. Possible Other Causes
Is your furnace blowing but there is no hot air? Maybe someone turned off the gas valve and forgot to turn it back on. If you have an older furnace or boiler you will also want to check the pilot light, and finally make sure the vents coming out of your house are clear. If anything is blocking your intake or exhaust this can cause the furnace to shut down. It could also cause other damages.
