Indoor Air Quality: Colds, Viruses, and Flus… Oh My! How is yours?

indoor air quality

If you are a subscriber to our monthly newsletter, you’ve read about the importance of indoor air quality. When Sal got together with Flash, they talked about traveling and how people are reacting to the Corona Virus, masks and all. Flash shared that he was told to sanitize his surroundings as you’re traveling. Also, put Neosporin in your nose as a preventative measure to catch airborne gunk. While we can’t speak to the soundness of travel advice we have heard echoed in the media, we can offer you practical solutions to give you peace of mind in your home.

Air Cleaners Reduce the Amount of Viruses in the Air

Of course, Sal Sidoti is no stranger to the discussion around air quality as it has grown to be an essential component to HVAC systems. On the radio show, Sal reminds Flash that any virus is serious and that is why air quality is a very big topic right now. The iWave is a new, brilliant technology that cleans the air in your home. It attaches to your furnace, the air passes through, and it cleans the air automatically.

Health professionals understand the importance of indoor air quality. Indoor air pollution causes 3.8 million deaths worldwide each year. From minor irritants to chronic illness and disease, indoor air cleaner’s technology has greatly improved. There are even ways to get air quality devices covered under insurance. Call Sal’s today for a free in-home estimate and more details.

The Corona Virus and Indoor Air Quality

The Center for Disease (CDC) has stated that in order for respiratory masks to be effective combatting COVID-19 (the corona virus), to wear a mask with N95 rating. However, typically the CDC does not recommend regular use of respirators outside the workplace.

With this in mind, while we cannot say that air cleaners prevent the corona virus, we believe that they are effective in filtering and sanitizing the air in your home. For example, the AccuClean™ Whole-Home Air Filtration System have a 99.98% filtration rate at .3 microns (the N95 masks filter the same) and can filter down to .1 at a lesser rate.

The Difference Between Air Cleaners and Air Purifiers

In many cases, air cleaners filter the air, removing dust particles and pet dander. Meanwhile, air purifiers sanitize the air, killing airborne pathogens that cause allergens and sickness.

With new whole-home systems like the American Standard AccuClean™ Whole Home System, it does both. Utilizing Intense Field Dialectics, a patented technology to remove common allergens from the home, the AccuClean™ eliminates dust particulate, pet dander, viruses, mold spores, tobacco smoke, dust mites, and more. For these reasons, American Standard’s AccuClean™ earned asthma & allergy friendly® Certification from The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) and Allergy Standards Limited (ASL). If you or members of your family have allergies, this is an excellent addition to your HVAC system.
